At CorpoCorpo LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), we built Umbra Budget with privacy as the foundation. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use Umbra Budget.
The Short Version
Your financial data stays on your device. We don't collect it, store it, or have access to it. Umbra Budget is designed to work entirely locally, which means your budgets, transactions, and financial information never leave your computer unless you explicitly export them yourself.
Information We Don't Collect
Unlike most budgeting applications, Umbra Budget does not collect:
- Your financial transactions or account information
- Your budget categories or spending habits
- Your bank account credentials or connections
- Your income, expenses, or savings data
- Usage analytics or behavioral tracking within the app
All of this data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers because we don't operate servers that store user financial data.
Information We May Collect
We may collect limited information in the following circumstances:
Purchase Information
When you purchase Umbra Budget Pro, our payment processor (such as Stripe, PayPal, or the platform's app store) collects payment information necessary to complete the transaction. We receive only:
- Confirmation that a valid purchase was made
- Your email address (for license delivery and support)
- General location (country) for tax purposes
We do not receive or store your full credit card number, bank account details, or other sensitive payment information.
Support Communications
If you contact us for support, we collect the information you provide (such as your email address and the content of your message) to respond to your inquiry. We do not require you to share any financial data from the app to receive support.
License Verification
Umbra Budget Pro performs a license key verification once per month to confirm your purchase is valid. During this check, the app sends only:
- Your license key
- A basic device identifier (to prevent unauthorized sharing)
This verification does not transmit any of your financial data, budgets, transactions, or personal information. The check is minimal and designed solely to validate your license. If you are offline, the app will retry the next time you have an internet connection.
Website Analytics
Our marketing website (umbrabudget.com) may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how visitors find and use our site. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. The Umbra Budget application itself contains no analytics or tracking beyond the monthly license verification described above.
Local AI Processing
Umbra Budget's AI features are powered by Ollama, a third-party open-source application that runs AI models locally on your device. AI features are entirely optional—you choose whether to install Ollama and enable AI functionality in Umbra Budget.
If you choose to use AI features:
- You install and manage Ollama yourself on your own device
- All AI processing happens locally—your financial data never leaves your computer
- No data is sent to external AI services, cloud servers, or third parties
- You can disable or uninstall Ollama at any time without affecting your budget data
Ollama is independent software with its own license and privacy practices. We recommend reviewing Ollama's documentation if you have questions about how it operates on your system.
Data Storage and Security
All your financial data in Umbra Budget is stored locally on your device using secure storage mechanisms provided by your operating system. Because your data never leaves your device:
- We cannot access, view, or recover your data
- We cannot be compelled to hand over your financial information
- Your data cannot be compromised in a breach of our servers
You are responsible for backing up your data and securing your device. We recommend using your operating system's built-in encryption and backup features.
Data Export and Portability
You can export your data from Umbra Budget at any time in standard formats (CSV, JSON). This data export is performed locally on your device. We encourage regular backups to your own storage solution.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Payment Processors: To process purchases (Stripe, PayPal, or app store platforms)
- Email Provider: To send purchase confirmations and respond to support requests
These services have their own privacy policies and handle only the limited information necessary for their specific functions. None of these services have access to your financial data within Umbra Budget.
Children's Privacy
Umbra Budget is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Umbra Budget after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including:
- The right to access information we hold about you
- The right to request deletion of your information
- The right to opt out of marketing communications
Because we collect minimal information and your financial data is stored only on your device, most data rights are already in your control by default.
